Perfect for road bikes. With a bike, it's better to stay a bit off to the side – you'll get more out of it.

As soon as you cycle out of Füssen, you will always have this fantastic view of the fairytale castles of Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau. Hohenschwangau once served the royal family as a "modest" summer residence, while Neuschwanstein Castle was built as the "main residence". Only stupid, that its pompous execution claimed 15 years of construction - in the end, builder King Ludwig II spent only a few days in the new home, before he died under mysterious circumstances in Lake Starnberg.

August 30, 2024,👫🏻 Schloss Neuschwanstein & Marienbrücke
On the last day of our vacation we started a little earlier. And that was a good thing, because more and more people were coming to THE tourist attraction. 😅 The buildings are impressive, but I probably won't have to go there again.
Theoretically you could have taken a bus or a carriage, but then the whole charm is lost. …

A quick visit to Neuschwanstein Castle, then we went to the crowded Marienbrücke and after cooling off in the Pöllatschlucht we returned to the starting point 🥾

Showing Translation

To finish off today there was a bit of culture 😊 Unfortunately Marienbrücke was not possible due to the crowds 🙈

Showing Translation

... to celebrate 🎄🎅 of the day there was a small 🌤 trip to Hohenschwangau - stretch your feet a little.
It was nice 🤩😀.

...must definitely come back again.

On my way back from the Dolomites to my overnight stay in Warmensteinach (winter hiking day in the Ochsenkopf region), I chose the Fernpass from Reutte to Füssen from Innsbruck in order to combine a stopover at Neuschwanstein with a short hike.

Finally, a tourist hotspot, Neuschwanstein.
Nice walk with beautiful views of Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau Castle.
The Marienbrücke with so many people on it is borderline 😬

Showing Translation

The castle was a must on our tour. It was a shame that the Marienbrücke was closed. The winter weather was a bit of a challenge. But when we got to the top of the castle, the sun came out for a short time.

Showing Translation

An interesting excursion into the world of castles in Bavaria, with the Museum of the Bavarian Kings, the Ammergau Alps surrounding it, and the Alpsee lake beautifully nestled between them. Unfortunately, photography is prohibited inside the castles and the museum.
