Kaiserfelsen Tunnel

Highlight • Structure

The two tunnels were carved through the rocks above the Kaiserfelsen in 1885 during the times of Kaiser Wilhelm. You probably thought of mountain bikers back then ...

great, exposed vantage point with a deep view over the Wehratal. Good shelter in bad weather. From there there are several great options to get down into the valley. Among other things, via the small via ferrata with ladders and chains, which is neither signposted nor visible on maps, difficulty T2-T2Plus with T3 points. In bad weather, the difficulty increases significantly. (see e.g. one of my tours: komoot.de/tour/202627592 or: komoot.de/tour/260392638 with more pictures.
For average hikers already the upper limit, sturdy shoes, a head for heights, good orientation (cairns) are prerequisites.
Also in the other direction (upwards) there are several variants (also forgotten paths) to get via Hornberg, Hornberg basin, Ehwaldhütte etc.

Also nice to look at from above and the confluence. Unfortunately, the dam crossing was closed.

Wehratal Reservoir

Highlight • Lake

The bottom of the reservoir is only temporarily visible due to current maintenance work.
I find it as fascinating as the lunar landscape during the extensive drainage of Lake Schluchsee a few years ago.

Wehr Reservoir

Highlight • Lake

The Wehra dam of the Wehra near Wehr in the district of Waldshut in Baden-Württemberg is a dam made of rubble material with an asphalt concrete outer seal. It was built from 1971 to 1974 and commissioned in 1975. A second tunnel west of the dam serves to relieve the flood. As the lower basin of the Hornberg level (Wehr power station), it is part of the Schluchseewerk. The upper basin of the pumped storage power plant is the Hornberg basin; the cavern with the power plant is located in the mountain about halfway between the upper and lower basins. The Wehra flows out of the reservoir via an inlet structure through a tunnel in the slope to the east of the barrier structure. Initially, the hydropower was not used to generate electricity. Between 1998 and 2000 an additional small hydropower plant with an Ossberger turbine was installed. This has a maximum output of 1,135 MW. The height of fall varies between 16 and 36 meters depending on the water level in the reservoir. The average height of fall is 29 meters.
