Lehrte Railway Station

Highlight • Rest Area

The construction of the railway in Lehrte is considered to be the beginning of industrialization and the development of a town in what was then a farming village. The reception building dates from 1845. The architectural design comes from Eduard Ferdinand Schwarz. The building was built by the still famous Royal Hanoverian master builder Conrad Wilhelm Hase.

To the north of Manskestrasse is the youngest part of the Lehrter Hohnhorstpark, which in the city is only called Stadtpark. It was created on the site on which the Lehrter sugar factory stood until the turn of the millennium. The factory shaped the city center of Lehrte for more than a century - not least because of the sweet smell during the beet campaign in autumn. Many older teachers still miss this smell today.
The two circular rain retention basins are reminiscent of the sugar silos that once stood on the site. On the other side of the adjacent Germaniastrasse is the last Nordzucker AG sugar silo. Liquid sugar is still stored in it.

In 1913, the Lehrter magistrate decided to build a central restaurant in the city park and then to lease it out. However, this led to protests from established restaurateurs who feared competition. After the called administrative district of Lüneburg had given the green light, however, the project was started by Lehrter Stadtbaumeister Max Huguenin. Due to the outbreak of World War I, the planned completion in 1915 could not be realized. It took until 1919 for construction to be completed. Since then it has been known as a multi-storey car park and has always housed a pub or restaurant. The name Parkschlösschen first came up in the 1980s. In the noughties, the building stood empty for a few years, and demolition was even discussed because of the visible deterioration. In 2010 the Lehrter real estate entrepreneur Rolf Neumann took over the house, renovated it and converted the apartment on the upper floor into offices. Since then, the "Marg-i" restaurant, which is known far beyond Lehrte, has been located in the basement.

The city of Lehrte has planted flower strips everywhere in the extensive city park in order to offer the insects sources of food well into the spring.

Hohnhorstpark Lehrte

Highlight • Natural

The Hohnhorstpark is Lehrte's green lung. It extends from Manskestrasse in a north-easterly direction up to the Hohnhorstsee. The oldest part was laid out around today's Schützenplatz from 1896. From there it has been expanded again and again. The largest and most idyllic part is south of the New Cemetery. There are wide lawns, small bodies of water and beautiful trees. At the beginning of September, the now legendary blues festival takes place here on the "Rodelberch".

Hohnhorst Lake

Highlight • Lake

The Hohnhorstsee in the north of Lehrter owes its existence to the construction of the autobahn in the 1930s. At this point, gravel and sand were dredged for the construction, so that a large pit was created that filled with water. In the 1950s, the water level was significantly higher than it is today, so that the lake, which is still privately owned, was a popular bathing area. Nowadays there is less bathing, but there is a pedal and rowing boat rental at the restaurant on the north bank.
In the past, the lake was often frozen over in winter, so you could walk or ice-skate on it. With the temperatures getting warmer and warmer, this will probably become more and more unlikely in the future. The last ice cream fun was in 2012.

Motorway bridges always have something fascinating about them. Here you have a good view of the A2 on both sides. Incidentally, you can also reach the service area from the bridge and there is a restaurant, a kiosk and a toilet.
