Flåm

Highlight • Settlement

Flåm is at the end of the Aurlandsfjord, a branch of the large Sognefjord. South of the harbor is Flåm's 17th-century wooden church. Flåm is connected to the transport routes by the Flåm Railway. It leads up to Myrdal on the Hardangervidda plateau.
Since 1986, Flåm has been connected to the road network through the 5053 m long Flenja Tunnel. In the past, traffic routes were secured by ferries.

Flåm Harbour

Highlight • Rest Area

Flåm Harbor is the tourist center of the region. The harbor is almost always full of people and several sightseeing tours on the Aurlandsfjord start from the harbor.

There are boat services to a number of destinations, including a daily direct service to Bergen. The port of Flåm is also a port of call for cruise ships. Due to the depth of the fjord and the port, even the largest cruise ships call at the port.

Flåm train station is also in the port area. The Flåmsbanen runs from here to Myrdal, where there is a connection to the Bergensbanen. The Flåm Railway runs through fantastic nature.

Flåm Railway Museum

Highlight • Monument

The Flåm Railway Museum gives you an insight into the building of one of Europe's steepest railway lines, the technical challenge and the people behind these impressive engineering works.

On show in the museum are an authentic El 9 locomotive, an old electric shunting engine, a number of rail inspection trolleys and different exhibitions with text, image, sound and objects. You can also experience a trip on the Flåm Railway video.

Stegastein, Aurlandsfjellet

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Stegastein viewing platform extends 30 meters above the treetops and 650 meters above the Aurlandsfjord, giving the impression of floating in the air. From the glass wall at the end of the platform you have a unique view of the fjord landscape. Stegastein is open all year round.

The small, lovely town of Flåm is located in the heart of Norway. Since it is connected to the Atlantic Ocean via the Aurlandsfjord and the Sognefjord, huge cruise ships find their way here. It looks a little bizarre to see these titans along the tiny scandinavian houses.
