Rowtor Rocks and the Druid's Cave

A nice place for a little scramble...and a great view at the top.

Rowtor Rocks consists of numerous interlinked tunnels and caverns, some natural and some man-made. Many of the rocks have been carved with symbols and pictures, including serpents, circles and cups. A series of steps, thrones and altars have also been fashioned out of the stone in a number of places.

St Michael's Church, Birchover

St Michael's Church, Birchover, also known as Rowtor Chapel, is a Grade II listed parish church in the Church of England in Birchover, Derbyshire.

The church dates from c. 1700 and was built by Thomas Eyre, a landowner and occupant of Rowtor Hall, as a private chapel for the Rowtor Estate. On his death in 1717, he left an endowment of £20 a week for a chaplain to keep the Common Prayer service twice a day, "and administer the Sacrament every Sun-day".

Winster Market House

The Market House is a late 17th or early 18th century building in the centre of Winster. It dates to when weekly cattle and cheese markets were important in this community.
The building was bought by the National Trust for £50 in 1906, the first of the Trust's properties in the Peak District National Park.
Today you can visit and see a scale model of the village and some information about the local area.

St John the Baptist Church, Winster

Grade II listed Church. The tower dates from 1721. Matthew Habershon made alterations in 1840 to 1842, and A Roland Barker started some restoration in 1884, which was completed in 1885.
