The Pont de Gau park is above all a family story. In 1949, a nature lover from the Camargue, André Lamouroux, founded a small zoological park that changed little until his son René took over in 1974.
He then imagined something completely different and breathed a breath of fresh air into this park, an innovative perspective and an essential educational mission.
In the original park he exchanges the old and dilapidated cages for large aviaries where he reconstructs the biotope of each species presented. He then expanded the site and developed the 12 hectares of the adjacent hunting marsh, which he gave to a completely different function, the protection and discovery of Camargue nature.
He circulates discovery trails through this new space that he has completely designed to accommodate many species of birds. He arranges islands, plants thousands of trees and shrubs and informs visitors through large and playful thematic panels. Today the park represents 60 hectares and more than 7 kilometers of walks in unspoilt nature and an unparalleled proximity to birds.
To gain access to the park, an entrance fee must be paid.
