Historic Inn Oeversee

Highlight • Historical Site

Unfortunately, unfortunately, this historic gem burned down to its foundations in July 2018. 499 years of history have become a robbery of the flames. The pitcher was first mentioned in 1519 on the old Ox Trail. At that time this part of Schleswig-Holstein still belonged to Denmark and was ruled by King Christian II. From 1624 the jug was also used as a post office and received the royal Danish privilege to use the Danish crown. It is the only one of the 113 Danish jugs in Germany and the oldest in Schleswig-Holstein.
During the period of the Schleswig-Holstein survey against Denmark and the Battle of Oeversee on 6 February 1864, the pitcher served as a field hospital under the flag of the Red Cross.
Even today monuments in Sankelmark and Oeversee remind of this battle with countless dead and wounded. Even today there is the Oeversee march. A walk of about 10 km, which leads from Flensburg-Martinsberg to the Prussian / Danish / Austrian monument to Oeversee, recalls this battle and commemorates the many Flensburgers who went to Oeversee to see the wounded and prisoners in the historic pitcher to help.
Because of these historical events, the name "historical pitcher" is also derived.
How it goes on with the historic pitcher is uncertain.

Everything flows...

The surface water of Lake Sankelmark flows via the Beek, the Treene, and then the Eider into the North Sea.

But beneath the lake lies a layer of lignite sands, containing large amounts of groundwater, from which 317-meter-deep wells extract drinking water for Schleswig-Holstein.

There is a tributary here on the northern shore of the lake. The lake circular route leads over a wooden bridge. It is very close to the Sankelmark Academy.
