Salt Pond in the Bad Oldesloe Spa Park

Highlight • Lake

At the beginning of the 19th century, the Kurpark was the center of a popular brine, moor and sulfur bath, which the oldeslo pharmacist Dr. Friedrich August Lorentzen founded in 1813. A granite brine bath still installed in the park comes from the former bathing pavilion. The spa garden was probably designed by the Bremen art gardener Isaak Hermann Albert Altmann (1777–1837), and the remains of old chestnut and linden alleys still testify to this design. From 1898 the spa then experienced a second bloom with elaborate new buildings and decorative beds. Today the park is a green oasis close to nature in the middle of the city, encircled by the best. Where once there were graduation towers on the river and bathhouses on the salt pond, romantic tree shapes are reflected in the salty water. Today, spa guests no longer fortify themselves on the brine, but a saline spring feeds a small bog in the park and creates interesting plant communities that give a rich bird life quarters.

Highlight • Castle

It is not possible to take photographs through the fence; the castle grounds and the park are not accessible, as a private clinic is now located there.
