Shelter at the Aller Bridge

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Unfortunately, the shelter is visited often enough by local teenagers - after that it looks like a garbage dump for a large area.
Too often the hut itself is damaged & destroyed 😢Otherwise the hut with an outside bench & a table is gladly accepted by canoe hikers 🛶... and always left clean!☝️
The hut can be approached directly by car.

Tranquil at low tide, more exciting at high tide! The Aller (sources near Magdeburg in Saxony-Anhalt) and the Oker, which comes from the Harz Mountains, meet behind the weir! The weir was completely restored in 2006, especially the mechanical systems. The 14 wooden bulkheads can be opened and closed independently of each other.
The lock was built in 1880 and cost around 100,000 marks at the time!
The side cheeks and the oval central part consist of large, hewn blocks of sandstone.

A new wooden bench has been inviting you to take a break since 2022!

Aller Weir, Müden

Highlight • River

The old mill in Müden (Aller) is located in the Dieckhorst district. In 1959, a major fire broke out here and destroyed the entire mill operation.
Unfortunately, all that remains of the mill building is an (ugly) red shell.
The old weir below the road bridge was completely demolished and replaced by a modern (but also unsightly) hydroelectric power plant (a water screw). A new fish ladder was also built at great expense.

From the Gloystein Bridge (named after its builder by the state building inspector from Celle) you have a very nice view of the Aller and Oker estuaries as well as the old Oker weir! The first bridge was built in 1897 (!) and completely renovated in 2006!

From the bridge in the direction of Ahnsen/Meinersen you have the most beautiful view of the confluence. From here the Aller is on the left and from the weir the Oker flows a few meters. The river with the most water is actually the Oker. Sheep or Heidschnucke sheep can be found grazing at the confluence from time to time. The Oker did not always flow here, however, but several hundred years ago it flowed between Wienhausen and Bockelskamp in the Celle district (now scientifically proven!). So the legendary “Mundburg” never existed here, at least not here.

St. Petri Church Müden (Aller)

Highlight • Religious Site

The St. Petri Church in Müden (Aller) is considered one of the oldest places of worship in the Gifhorn area and was first mentioned in 1295. The church is located right in the town center next to the town hall and the local history museum.
In recent years, the rear area has been landscaped, old grave crosses have been moved and restored, and a Luther oak has been planted.

Allerauen Nature Reserve

Highlight • Natural

Very beautiful section along the Aller south of the town of Müden (Aller). Past old pastures, grassy areas and old river arms to the outskirts of the village with the old church.
In May/June in particular, you can expect a variety of birds including cuckoos, nightingales, song thrushes, grey herons and kingfishers.
Starting point at the bridge in Flettmar or at the Broitzemgarten at the Gloysteinbrücke (Aller) in the town center.
