The Bastorf lighthouse stands on the Signalberg above Cape Bukspitze and is one of the smallest in Germany. In addition to its function as an orientation fire on the western Baltic Sea, its main task is to warn of "Hannibal" a sandbar in the entrance to Wismar Bay.

The lighthouse in Bastorf, with its approximately 20 meters height, is one of the smallest lighthouses in Germany. Nevertheless, the light above Cape Bukspitze – hence the correct designation Lighthouse Buk – is the highest. The tower is located just under 80 meters above sea level. In 1878, 18 months after construction began, its light shone out over the Baltic Sea for the first time, up to 18 nautical miles. For 40 years, the light in the tower has been rotating automatically.
