    Hiking

The White House is definitely a must-see. Unfortunately, the view is now blocked by many barriers.
On the south side you can still see the seat of government quite well from a distance.

    Hiking

There really isn't much to say. The White House is the official residence and seat of government of the President of the United States.
The north side is nicer for me because you can get much closer.

Unfortunately, the White House is pretty much locked down, you can hardly get near it, there are lots of police everywhere. It's a pity, because the building is really beautiful, historically significant and, as the seat of the President, with high symbolic value.

Embark on a quintessential Washington, D.C. experience with the Dupont Circle to The National Mall and Tidal Basin loop, a moderate urban hike that packs an incredible amount of history and scenery into one journey. This 8.2-mile (13.2 km) route, with a minimal 138 feet (42 metres) of elevation gain, guides you from the lively Dupont Circle through the monumental core of the city. Expect to spend about 3 hours and 21 minutes walking past iconic landmarks like the White House, Washington Monument, and the Lincoln Memorial, culminating in the picturesque views around the Tidal Basin.

Planning your visit is straightforward, as the starting point at Dupont Circle is readily accessible via public transportation. While the trail is generally flat and paved, its considerable length means comfortable footwear is a must. Spring is a particularly popular time to walk this route, as the cherry blossoms around the Tidal Basin create a stunning backdrop, though the city's memorials offer a powerful experience in any season.

What makes this one of the best walking routes in Washington, D.C., is its unparalleled concentration of cultural and historical significance. You'll not only see America's most famous monuments but also experience the vibrant atmosphere of the National Mall, a true blend of civic space and natural beauty. It's an ideal way to explore the capital's heart, offering both exercise and an educational journey through American history.
