    Hiking

The South Old Woman River originates in the wetland around Peat Lake at the foot of the southern slope of Peat Mountain. Further north, the mountain stream flows into Old Woman Bay in Lake Superior. Only a part of the stream is accessible. The short circular hike starts on Highway 17 opposite Rabbit Blanket Lake Campground and leads through an old, gnarled cedar forest. During our visit on June 1, 2026, the trail was closed due to high water.
