The Citadel – a fortress built in stages between 1806 and 1883, with minor later changes, which after 1883 constituted the core – the citadel of the fortified Modlin Fortress. The framework of the fortress, erected by order of Napoleon I in the years 1806–1813, was rebuilt and supplemented in the years 1832–1841. The citadel was modernized in the 1860s–70s, 1894–1900, 1912–1914, with the latter dates mainly concerning the construction of support facilities (barracks, warehouses) and powder magazines.

The longest brick building in Europe - 2250 meters long.
