The Schwerin Cathedral of St. Mary and St. John is the most important church building in the city and one of the most significant examples of North German Brick Gothic architecture. Its construction began in the 13th century and was completed over several centuries. With its 117.5-meter-high tower, the cathedral shapes the cityscape to this day. Inside, intricate stained-glass windows, historical tombs, and the Gothic high altar are impressive. As an Evangelical bishop's church and a popular landmark, Schwerin Cathedral is an important place for worship, culture, and history.
