Next to the bear enclosure, this plaque honors the founder and long-time director of the Berlin Zoo, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Heinrich Dathe (1910-1991). The plaque was unveiled on October 21, 2005, to honor his life's work and contributions to zoology.
