    Jerzy Aleksander Popiełuszko (born September 14, 1947 in Okopy, died October 19, 1984 in Włocławek) was a Polish Roman Catholic priest, Franciscan tertiary, chaplain of the Warsaw "Solidarity", defender of human rights in the Polish People's Republic. He was murdered by officers of the Security Service,

    Blessed and martyr of the Catholic Church.

    Posthumously awarded the Order of the White Eagle.
