In the center of Plaza Luis Escudero and next to the Town Hall, stands this monument dedicated to Juan Jorge Graubner, founder of the Royal Factories of San Juan de Alcaraz and considered the true driving force behind the birth of the current Riópar. The sculpture depicts him working in his workshop and pays homage both to his figure and to the generations of men and women who, for more than two centuries, brought the local metallurgical industry to life.

Born in Vienna in 1736, Graubner arrived in Spain at a very young age, attracted by the opportunities offered by the enlightened policy of the Bourbons. After specializing in metallurgy, he discovered the wealth of the calamine deposits in Riópar, a mineral essential for manufacturing brass. He convinced King Charles III to promote an ambitious industrial project and, by Royal Decree of 1773, the Reales Fábricas de San Juan de Alcaraz were born, considered the first brass factories in Spain and one of the most advanced industrial initiatives in Europe at the time.
