The Megalong Valley gets its name from a Gundungurra Aboriginal word meaning "Valley Under The Rock", an appropriate name as the steep cliffs of the Blue Mountains offer great views over the valley.
These days, the area is known for its mix of bushland, farms, and vineyards. The latter of which are popular for day trips and as a stopover for hikers on the Six Foot Track that crosses the valley floor.
