The Zala River is a fascinating body of water in western Hungary. It is not only scenically beautiful but also plays a key ecological role for one of Central Europe's best-known destinations. The Zala originates in the border triangle between Hungary, Slovenia, and Austria, more precisely in the hills of Őrség (near the village of Szalafő). Length: Approximately 126 kilometers. Mouth: It flows into Lake Balaton. Special feature: The Zala is the most important water supplier to Lake Balaton, accounting for about 50% of the lake's total water supply.
