The Confederates' fight for our homeland's independence – the first Polish uprising against the partitioning powers – lasted four years, and the last battle, fought three months after the first partition of Poland, took place on November 29, 1772, in the fields surrounding Zagórz, still known today as "Pułaski's Trenches."
