Over fifty dolls are housed in the Suvereto Doll Art Museum. A surprising journey through Maria Micaelli's extraordinary collection recounts the evolution of costume, styles, and materials—from porcelain to biscuit, from rags to celluloid, along with felt, fabric, and papier-mâché—illustrating some of the most recent moments in Italian history. Astonishing one-of-a-kind pieces and masterpieces of art and craftsmanship come from Italy's most important manufacturers: of particular importance are the pieces from the Lenci House of Turin, including Violetta (1921), the museum's signature doll, inspired by the protagonist of Verdi's opera La Traviata.
The MAB – Museo Artistico della Bambola (Maria Micaelli Collection) is a fascinating exhibition center located in the heart of the medieval village of Suvereto, in Val di Cornia (Tuscany). Housed in a historic building near the "porticciola", the museum collects over 50 dolls that trace the history of Italian costume, play, and artistic craftsmanship from the late 19th century to the 1980s.
