Nestled on the slopes of the Pizzorne plateau, Villa Basilica is a historic village famous for its ancient tradition of sword making and paper production, favored by its rushing streams. Strolling through its unique alleys, you can reach the twelfth-century Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta and admire the extraordinary panorama from the cathedral square, the same one that once enchanted Emperor Charles V.

Villa Basilica is a characteristic Italian hilly municipality of about 1,468 inhabitants, located in the province of Lucca, in Tuscany. Situated at 330 meters above sea level on the slopes of the Altopiano delle Pizzorne, the village lies halfway between Lucca and Pistoia, very close to the famous hamlet of Collodi. Historically renowned for the abundance of watercourses, the town was an ancient medieval power in the production of swords and iron weapons (even requested by Cosimo de' Medici), before converting its economy to the traditional paper manufacturing.
