The so-called Angel Steps lead up to Engelberg Monastery on 612 stone steps. Also known as the Stairway to Heaven or the Way of the Cross, they begin in Großheubach. They were built in 1637 and are now maintained through donations for individual steps. Six chapels with Passion scenes line the path and invite you to pause for a moment.
Those who climb the steps will be rewarded at the end with an impressive view of the surrounding area, which stretches picturesquely between the wooded slopes of the Spessart and Odenwald mountains.
