The building was erected in 1529 under the rule of the Counts of Eppstein as the town hall of Hofheim. The ground floor originally also served as a market hall and courthouse. During the witch trials in Hofheim, interrogations took place here from 1595 to 1603. After a renovation around 1710, the ground floor was used for various municipal purposes, including as a police station, detention center, weights and measures office, and storage for the fire brigade, hearse, and stretcher. The mayor's offices, the registry office, and the meeting room for the town council were located on the upper floor.

New tenant for the café in the Old Town Hall. The Altes Rathaus Café will become Sofia’s Rathaus Café. Sofia Lee will launch in June 2026 under the motto „Tradition meets elegance“ with a mix of classic European café charm, modern accents, and homemade specialties.

Update: Repair work on the electrical system, pipes, and fire protection is still ongoing -> September 26☕
