    Hiking

The only real shelter on the Appalachian Approach Trail from Amicalola Falls to Mt. Springer.
There's a bear-proof food pit, and the trail to the nearest water, a half-mile away, is marked.

    Hiking

I spent one night at Black Mountain Shelter during my Appalachian Trail hike, and it was one of the most memorable stops on the trip. After a long day on the trail, the shelter was a welcome place to rest and meet other hikers. The area is quiet and surrounded by beautiful mountain forest, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy the Appalachian Trail experience. It's a simple shelter with toilet, but it offers exactly what a thru-hiker needs after a long day on the trail.
