The Peña Adobe Hill Trail offers a rewarding, quick escape with diverse terrain and expansive views over Lagoon Valley. You'll navigate a mix of gradual slopes and steeper single-track switchbacks, leading to a prominent viewpoint that showcases the 100-acre Lagoon Valley Lake and the surrounding parkland. It's an easy 1.8-mile (2.8 km) hike with 661 feet (201 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking around 54 minutes, making it a great option for a brisk outing.

Planning your visit is simple, as the trail is conveniently located right off Interstate 80 in Vacaville. While the overall hike is considered easy, be prepared for some challenging ascents that can get your heart pumping. For the best experience, aim to visit during the cooler fall and winter months when the landscape is lush and you might spot local wildlife.

Beyond the scenic workout, this trail is part of the larger Peña Adobe Regional Park, which is rich in history. The park is home to the Peña Adobe, built in 1842, which stands as the oldest structure in Solano County and is a California historical landmark. The area also boasts diverse flora and fauna, adding an extra layer of interest to your hike.

The Peña Adobe Hill Loop offers a dynamic hiking experience, winding through diverse terrain from gradual slopes to challenging single-track switchbacks. You'll work for your views, but the payoff is worth it, with expansive panoramic vistas over Lagoon Valley and Peña Adobe Park from key viewpoints. Depending on the season, especially during the lush fall and winter, you might spot wildflowers and local wildlife along the way.

This moderate 4.4-mile (7.1 km) route involves 729 feet (222 metres) of elevation gain and typically takes around 2 hours and 6 minutes to complete. Due to limited shade, especially on uphill sections, it's best hiked in the cooler fall and winter months, or early mornings during summer. The trail is dog-friendly, provided your furry friend stays on a leash, and its location just off Interstate 80 makes it an easy stop for travelers.

Part of the larger Peña Adobe Park, this trail offers more than just a hike; it's set within a historically significant area. The park is home to the Peña Adobe Home, the oldest structure in Solano County, adding a layer of cultural interest to your outdoor adventure. Beyond the trail, the park provides amenities like a disc golf course and a dog park, making it a versatile recreational hub in Vacaville.
