Clay mining at the Niederstein mine ceased around 1970, but was temporarily resumed in the 1990s by Marx Bergbau GmbH from Ruppach-Goldhausen near Montabaur. Today, the site houses the Limburg-Weilburg district landfill and a composting facility.
