Gate No. I named after the "Five Fallen". This term refers to five people killed by the Russian army during a patriotic demonstration in Warsaw on February 27, 1861. Their funeral, which took place on March 2 at the Powązki Cemetery, became a major political and social demonstration aimed at the Russian occupying authorities in the Congress Kingdom. This event was one of the important moments of the growing resistance of Poles to Russian rule, leading to the outbreak of the January Uprising in 1863.
