This square is an important urban development project of the city expansion at the turn of the century. It functions as a city square with green spaces and also as a traffic distributor.
Wilhelmsplatz is surrounded by representative public buildings. Of particular note are the courthouse built between 1900 and 1903, modeled on the Palais de Justice in Paris and in the German Renaissance style, and the post office building built in 1905.
