Not quite as well known as the passes in the Alps. But the Transfagarasan is considered by connoisseurs as one of the most beautiful high mountain roads in the world. I'm already up in 1984 with 3 gears, because there was hardly any other pass road in the "East". It was a dream! And even then the tunnel was a dark hole with potholes and water from above.
