Is it a glorified bus shelter or a work of art? Neither. So what is the mysterious structure of glass, steel and plants in the Beekpark?
It is a so-called folly; a useless structure that only serves as decoration. Or, as the municipality itself describes it: ‘A structure intended for beautification, as an eye-catcher or landmark, not necessarily functional in nature.’
Funny: folly is an English term that means something like foolishness or stupidity.
The Folly was designed in 2004 by Apeldoorn artist Tirza Verrips (in collaboration with the architectural firm Artec) on behalf of LIONS Apeldoorn.
