Small, characterful village church from the early 20th century. The church has a sober Gothic form, with a slender tower, pointed arch windows and a bright, open interior typical of the rural parishes of West Cork. Together with the green churchyard and low stone walls, the building forms a peaceful ensemble in the middle of the village. From here, the landscape opens up towards the Sheep’s Head Peninsula, making the church a natural landmark on routes between Bantry, Durrus and the coastal roads.

The Church of St. James is found on top of a gentle hill above Dunmanus Bay, on the edge of Durrus village.
It was originally built in 1792, on the site of an earlier church, although there have been plenty of additions across the following years.
