Rurberg is located on the southern edge of the Rursee in the Rurtalsperre network. The town is a popular recreational destination for water sports enthusiasts, cyclists and hikers. The Obersee, the Eiserbachsee and the actual Rursee meet here. After the dam was built in the 1930s, some residents were relocated to the hillsides, which is why there are few older buildings in the town12. Rurberg is also a state-approved climatic health resort (Rurberg-Süd) and a popular destination for people from Aachen, Cologne, the Netherlands and Belgium.
