The onshore pond Groß Bülten-Adenstedt is the legacy of ore mining by the Ilseder Hütte. First, sand was mined there between 1920 and 1956, later the resulting depression was used as an ore clarification pond. It also served as a dumping pond for muddy pit water from the Lengede iron ore mine until 1979. The 57 hectare onshore pond has been a nature reserve since 1984 and is important for amphibians, waders and water birds.
