A moving place that invites you to pause and reflect. The memorial plaque and information point at Pabstleithen commemorate the fate of 57 families who were forcibly resettled between the 1950s and 1970s due to the proximity to the border. Where hikers now walk in the silence of the Green Belt, entire livelihoods were destroyed in the past.

The town of Pabstleithen (approx. 300 inhabitants), which is located near the border, came under close scrutiny by the German Border Police (DGP) as the border regime tightened in the 1950s. The first forced evictions took place in the 1950s, affecting a total of 57 families by the 1970s. Since a border company was stationed in Pabstleithen and the place was already on the edge of the border, Pabstleithen was preserved with a greatly reduced population.
