With the inscription "Ave Maria" written in large letters, this Marian wayside shrine invites the passing hiker to pray to the Mother of God. With these words "Ave Maria, gratia plena" ("Hail Mary, full of grace") the angel's greeting to the Mother of God begins when he brings the heavenly message to Mary, who lives in Nazareth and betrothed to Joseph, that she is Jesus to give birth to Christ, the Son of God. The text has become a widespread prayer that believers address to Our Lady to invoke her intercession or to offer thanks.
