The Cheb Museum, with the largest historical collection in the Karlovy Vary region, was founded in 1873. It is housed in the so-called Pachelbel House, one of the best-preserved medieval patrician houses in the city. Not only the exhibits are historically significant, but also the place itself: the Generalissimo of the imperial armies, Albrecht von Wallenstein, one of the greatest generals of the Thirty Years' War, was murdered in this house on February 25, 1634.
