This difficult road cycling loop from Coronado High School takes you through the stunning high desert landscape of El Paso, offering a true test of endurance and spectacular scenery. You'll climb 3005 feet (916 metres) over 32.1 miles (51.6 km), passing through McKelligon Canyon with its unique rock formations and diverse desert flora. The route culminates at the Murchison Rogers Park Overlook, where you'll be rewarded with expansive panoramic views of El Paso and Juarez.

Expect a challenging ride that takes around 2 hours and 42 minutes, requiring good to very good fitness. The route is easily accessible from Coronado High School, and while the roads are mostly well-paved, be prepared for significant elevation changes. During warmer months, it's wise to plan your ride for the cooler parts of the day to manage the desert heat.

This loop is a favorite among local road cyclists for its demanding physical challenge and the immersive experience of the Southwestern desert environment. It's part of the Franklin Mountains State Park, providing a unique opportunity to explore a natural treasure within an urban setting. The geology, with its colorful rock layers from an ancient reef system, adds another layer of interest to this already captivating ride.
