The square was solemnly inaugurated on November 2, 2008, together with the monument. This was designed by sculptor Peter Brauchle on the initiative of Father Dr. Mario Crvenka, then residing at the Augustinerkirche, to which the square belongs.
Edith Stein also stayed in Landau for a time in the 1920s, which justifies naming the square on the grounds of the Roman Catholic church.
