The Bastrop and Buescher State Parks Loop offers a captivating road cycling experience through the unique Lost Pines Forest, where you'll encounter winding, hilly roads and the distinct loblolly pines recovering from past wildfires. The route provides views of historical CCC-era stone structures and, within Bastrop State Park, a glimpse of Lake Mina, all while navigating the engaging terrain that defines this Central Texas gem.

This moderate road cycling route covers 29.1 miles (46.8 km) with 1301 feet (397 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking around 2 hours and 3 minutes to complete. Parking is readily available at both Bastrop and Buescher State Parks, making for easy access. It's a great option for cyclists looking for a substantial ride with varied elevation without requiring an entire day.

The highlight of this loop is undoubtedly Park Road 1C, a scenic 12-mile stretch connecting the two state parks, known for its relatively low traffic and its inclusion in the MS-150 bike race. Riding through the Lost Pines Forest offers a unique ecological perspective, showcasing an isolated stand of pines far removed from East Texas's main forests, and providing a chance to observe local wildlife and native plants.
