Concrete City was built as employee housing in 1911 and abandoned just 13 years later in 1924. The 20 duplexes were made entirely of concrete and hence incredibly durable. Unfortunately they were also very drafty, cold, and held too much moisture be be long term dwellings.

In the decades that followed nearby fire and police departments have used the site for training. Graffiti writers and artists have left their mark all over, and more recently paintball and airsoft tournaments have been held here.

Embark on a touring bicycle adventure along the Susquehanna Warrior Trail and Concrete City Loop, a moderate route spanning 25.3 miles (40.7 km). You will experience a varied landscape, cycling through peaceful meadows and forests alongside the Susquehanna River, where you might spot local wildlife like bald eagles. The journey includes a total elevation gain of 1276 feet (389 metres), offering a good workout over an estimated 3 hours and 12 minutes of riding.

When planning your visit, be aware that while the main Susquehanna Warrior Trail is well-maintained with a crushed stone surface, the path to Concrete City is quite different. This section involves an unmarked dirt road that can be narrow, rutted, and muddy, potentially containing broken glass and metal debris. Standard touring bicycles are not suitable for the immediate area around Concrete City, so you might need to walk this part or consider a more robust bike if you plan to explore it closely.

This route uniquely combines scenic riverside cycling with a fascinating glimpse into early 20th-century industrial housing. Concrete City, an abandoned historical site, features 20 concrete duplex homes that stand as a testament to a bygone era. It offers a distinct contrast to the natural beauty of the Susquehanna River, providing a memorable historical element to your touring bicycle trip.
