Skyline Drive: Waynesboro to Front Royal offers a continuous mountain cycling experience through Shenandoah National Park, renowned for its breathtaking views of the Appalachian Mountains and the Shenandoah Valley. You'll encounter a heavily forested landscape dotted with around 75 scenic overlooks, providing endless opportunities to pause and soak in the vistas, perhaps even spotting deer or wild turkeys.

This is a difficult 105.8-mile (170.2 km) touring cycling route with 10266 feet (3129 metres) of elevation gain, demanding good fitness and taking approximately 11 hours and 38 minutes. Be prepared for consistent climbs and descents, as flat sections are rare. Remember to carry sufficient food and water, as amenities are sparse, and an entrance fee is required for the park.

What makes this route truly stand out is its status as a National Scenic Byway, offering a serene cycling experience free from commercial vehicles or stoplights. At its southern end in Waynesboro, Skyline Drive seamlessly connects to the Blue Ridge Parkway, opening up possibilities for an even more extended touring adventure through Virginia's mountains.
