Embark on an easy hike along the Seismosaurus Trail, where you will discover expansive desert views filled with colorful rock formations and impressive sandstone mesas. This route covers 2.1 miles (3.4 km) and involves a gentle elevation gain of 112 feet (34 metres), making it a perfect outing for about 54 minutes. As you walk, you will experience the unique atmosphere of the Ojito Wilderness, with its vivid badlands revealing layers from prehistoric periods.

When you plan your visit, remember that the trail offers very little shade, so it is wise to prepare for warmer conditions, especially during the hotter months. While the area is rich in natural history, collecting fossils and petrified wood is strictly prohibited by law to preserve this unique environment. You will find parking readily available at the trailhead, ensuring easy access to start your adventure.

The trail leads you directly to the historic Seismosaurus Dig Site, a significant location where one of the largest dinosaurs ever known was excavated. Further along the path, you can also find ancient petroglyphs carved into rock surfaces, offering a fascinating glimpse into the rich human history of this landscape. These unique features make the Seismosaurus Trail a notable destination for anyone interested in geology, paleontology, and ancient cultures.
