It is a bronze sculpture by the sculptor Martin Mayer. In contrast to many heroic depictions of Luther, this statue shows Luther in a rather thoughtful, almost doubting pose, making it a special work of art in the city.

The 240 cm high bronze statue was created by Martin Mayer.
The ground-level depiction of Luther is interesting, calm and unobtrusive - not a monumental monument. The reformer is presented among his peers, the focus is on the Bible.
The monument was erected on behalf of the city in 1996 on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of Luther's death. The financier of the 120,000 DM project was the local savings bank.
