    Hiking

Incredible viewpoint, easily accessible by hiking or by bike. If you are a more experienced Mountainbike rider and don't mind pushing the bike uphill for a bit, take the trail down to Forcora along the ridge to Monte Siri. Awesome!

    Hiking

From Monte Covreto you have a great view of Passo Forcora and Lake Delio to Lake Maggiore. Monte Covreto (1,570 m) is easy to climb with children and can be reached from Passo Forcora in about 1 3/4 hours.

Monte Corbaro e Monte Covreto – loop from Passo Forcora

    8.16km

    03:10

    440m

    440m

Start your hike from Passo Forcora on the Monte Corbaro e Monte Covreto loop, a moderate trail that takes about 3 hours and 9 minutes to complete. You will cover 5.1 miles (8.2 km) and ascend 1456 feet (444 metres), making it suitable for hikers with some experience. The initial path winds through pleasant beech and conifer forests before opening up to ridge lines with grassy sections. From these open areas, you can enjoy expansive views, including the majestic Swiss Alps and the shimmering waters of Lago Maggiore. Reaching the summit of Monte Covreto, you will find a cross and views extending to the Maggia river delta and Locarno.

This moderate hike is rated "E" on the Italian difficulty scale, meaning it requires physical effort but no particular technical skills. Good fitness and sure-footedness are necessary, though the paths are mostly accessible. The trail starts from Passo Forcora, which is around 1,179-1,190 meters in elevation. In winter, you can undertake this route with snowshoes, provided snow conditions are stable. Remember that a portion of the trail, specifically the summit of Monte Covreto, crosses into Swiss territory, so carrying identification is advisable.

What makes this loop particularly special is the opportunity to summit three different mountains in one hike: Monte Paglione, Monte Covreto, and Monte Corbaro. You will find summit crosses on Monte Covreto and Monte Corbaro, with Monte Corbaro also featuring a summit book. The route offers constant 360-degree panoramic views of the Monte Rosa massif, Lago Maggiore, and Val Veddasca. Along the way, you might spot wildlife such as roe deer, foxes, and eagles, adding to the natural appeal. An abandoned stone house also adds a touch of history to the journey.
