Herder Memorial, Weimar
It was the first Weimar poet memorial, unveiled on Herder's 106th birthday at the pottery market in front of the city church of St. Peter & Paul (Herder's place of work). Johann Gottfried Herder (1744-1803), philosopher and theologian, was appointed General Superintendent of the Duchy of Saxe-Weimar in 1776 at Goethe's instigation. The bronze figure was designed by Ludwig Schaller (1848).
