The East Applegate Ridge Trail offers a difficult 10.4-mile (16.8 km) jogging experience that immerses you in the diverse landscapes of Oregon's Applegate Valley. You'll traverse steep grasslands, rocky singletrack, and serene madrone groves, all while enjoying panoramic vistas of the valley, the Red Buttes, and the distant Siskiyou Mountains. This route, typically taking around 2 hours and 19 minutes to complete, is a fantastic option for those seeking a challenging workout amidst varied natural beauty.

Planning your visit requires some consideration for the trail's 1857 feet (566 metres) of elevation gain. The climb from the Highway 238 trailhead is particularly strenuous, so be prepared for a significant ascent. Alternatively, starting from Sterling Creek Road offers a gentler introduction to the trail. Due to considerable sun exposure on sections, remember to bring ample water, wear a hat, and apply sunscreen. The trail is open year-round, but it's wise to avoid it after heavy rains to protect the path.

Designated an Oregon Signature Trail, the East Applegate Ridge Trail is recognized for showcasing iconic state landscapes and unique features like a "masterpiece of a madrone" tree. It's a multi-use trail, popular with joggers, hikers, and mountain bikers, and your leashed dog is welcome to join. Keep an eye out for local wildlife such as deer and golden eagles, and enjoy the vibrant wildflowers that line the trail in spring and early summer.
