    Hiking

There is a plant nursery with a nice café here at Mill House; it's a great place to stop by and relax those weary legs of yours for a few minutes. This is sometimes called Dutch House; after the Dutch horticulturalist Sjaak Kastelijn, who works at the nursery here.

Embark on a moderate hike through the picturesque North Yorkshire countryside with the St Cuthbert's Church and Oulston Reservoir loop. This popular trail covers 8.3 miles (13.3 km) and features a diverse landscape of field paths, quiet country lanes, and rolling hills. You will gain 513 feet (156 metres) in elevation over approximately 3 hours and 34 minutes, offering a good workout. Enjoy expansive rural vistas, including views of the Vale of York and, on clear days, even the Pennines from higher points in Crayke. The route passes by the historic St Cuthbert's Church and offers peaceful views of the tranquil Oulston Reservoir.

Starting from Crayke Plant Nursery and Café, this loop is easily accessible. While largely accessible, some sections may be muddy, especially after rain, so waterproof walking boots are advisable. The trail combines well-wooded countryside, tranquil reservoirs, and rolling landscapes, providing varied backdrops for your outdoor activity. Plan for a good level of fitness to comfortably complete this moderate route.

This trail is a favorite among local hiking enthusiasts, blending natural beauty with historical interest. You will explore the diverse landscapes of the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village of Crayke itself is notable, having existed since at least 685 AD, and features the private 15th-century Crayke Castle, adding a touch of history to your journey.
