More than 24,000 tropical plants, around 170 exotic animal species, and a primeval rainforest, like the one that shaped the supercontinent Gondwana. All in a unique hall with an area of 16,500 square meters in the shape of a huge isosceles triangle - that is the Gondwanaland tropical experience world at Leipzig Zoo. A hall of a special kind with the highest demands on species protection and sustainability, which offers interested visitors completely new insights into the ecosystem of many endangered animals and plants.

The tropical experience hall is the latest implemented project of the strategic concept „Zoo of the Future“. Behind the construction lies an environmentally friendly heating and irrigation system, heated by solar energy and using rainwater. The construction costs were borne by the state of Saxony, the city, and Zoo Leipzig. The concept paid off: in 2011, the year Gondwanaland opened, the zoo counted more than two million visitors for the first time.
