The locks of Leers-Noord are located at the beginning of the Canal de l'Espierres in the municipality of Estaimpuis. The locks are part of the Canal de l'Espierres - pont levis de petit preux route, a cycle route of approximately 15.7 kilometers that starts at Leers-Nord (Estaimpuis) and runs along the canal. The route is easily accessible and suitable for all fitness levels.

Cycling

In the past, the locks of Leers-Noord formed the connection between French/Flemish territory and have passed between France and the Netherlands several times in history. Only in the Treaty of Kortrijk 1820 was the border definitively established (a little further on la maison du canal / former customs office and current café/restaurant is on the border).
